People
will find your website in any number of ways. And once your
site is complete, you should begin putting your URL on all
of your company’s printed material – brochures, invoices,
business cards, and letterhead.
If your company produces newsletters, flyers, brochures,
catalogs, and print advertising, then you’ll want to include
your website information there as well.
But one of the biggest ways people will find you on the Internet
itself is through a search engine (like Google) which is a
site that has a catalogue of millions of websites (like a
library) and presents a list of “pertinent”
sites when a specific keyword is used in a search. People
will also find your website using directories like Yahoo,
which is a directory, but it has search-engine-like qualities.
For the most part, getting into a search engine is as simple
as registering with them, or waiting for their “spiders”
to find you. You don’t
need any special status to register. In fact, most engines
have an “add URL”
button right on their main pages.
Getting a good
search engine ranking is another story, especially
in Google, where the competition is fierce. |
